TikTok users are putting a new spin on things by getting an early start on transforming their lives with the Winter Arc Challenge. Participants of the challenge encourage taking 90 days in the late fall and winter to prioritise your physical and mental health rather than waiting for the new year to get a start.
Dr Suhas V P, MBBS MD DM(NIMHANS), Consultant Neurologist, Bangalore Hospitals Jayanagar and Kengeri said that it takes around 66 days to form a habit and 90 days to solidify positive routine, hence the last 3 months of the year play an important role in establishing and sustaining healthy habits walking into the new year.
People generally come up with a list of 10 self-improvement activities that they’d like to add to their daily routine, such as walking 10,000 steps, drinking more water, or journaling every day, and these activities chosen are meant to boost both physical and mental wellness.
How to successfully practice it
If you are planning on embarking on this self development journey and being a part of this trend, Dr Suhas shared some easy ways to become a part of the winter arc trend:
1. Plan your work and work your plan- Spend 10 minutes each day when you wake up to plan on your schedule, so that you are prepared make each day productive.
2. Go for a power walk or jog to invigorate your senses and enjoy the crisp, refreshing air.
3. Strength training – Squats, pushups, and using resistant bands for workouts will give you good physique.
4. Mindful meditation for 10 minutes.
5. Digital detox- For 10-15 minutes, step away from all screens and find the inner you.
6. Stay hydrated – Water rejuvenates you and it is a best detoxifying agent ever known to human. Try to stay on top of your hydration game.
7. Fun activities- Dance, skip rope, play with kids, to help keep your inner child alive.
8. Puzzles and Riddle- Rest leads to rust, so keep your brain’s neurons active by solving puzzles.
9. Cook and Eat a healthy meal- Say no to junk food and added sugars. Focus on protein-rich foods and explore new recipes that help you meet the recommended intake of 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight.
10. Finally, cultivate humility and practice positive affirmations to nurture a grateful and optimistic mindset.
