Wake Forest University School of Medicine gets $27 million to study ties between heart, brain health
THE WXII 12 NEWSROOM IS FOLLOWING RIGHT NOW IN STATE OF ADDICTION. OFFICIALS IN ROCKINGHAM COUNTY SAY DRUG OVERDOSE DEATHS REACHED A PEAK IN 2022, WITH 68 RESIDENTS LOSING THEIR LIVES. SO TODAY, HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE LAUNCHING A NEW PROGRAM TO SUPPORT THOSE IN NEED. IT’S CALLED THE MEDICATIONS FOR OPIOID USE DISORDER, OR MOUD PROGRAM. IT OFFERS CLINICAL SERVICES, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING AND HEALTH SCREENINGS, ALL FOR PEOPLE COMMITTED TO REDUCING THEIR DEPENDANCE ON OPIOID DRUGS. THE PROGRAM IS ONLY OPEN TO ROCKINGHAM COUNTY RESIDENTS, WHO ARE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD. THE PARTICIPANTS CANNOT BE PREGNANT OR PLANNING TO BE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE PROGRAM WILL ACCEPT MEDICAID, MEDICARE AND A VARIETY OF PRIVATE INSURANCES, AS WELL AS A LIMITED NUMBER OF UNINSURED CLIENTS. THOSE INTERESTED CALL THE ROCKINGHAM COUNTY DIVISION OF PUBLIC HEALTH TO LEARN MORE MAINTENANCE WORK CONTINUES TODAY AT SEVERAL RAILROAD CROSSINGS IN GREENSBORO. This refers to heart or blood vessel disorders that are detected before any clinical signs or symptoms appear. The aim is to identify these disorders as risk factors that can predict the development of cardiovascular disease.Since 2018, the MESA-MIND study has enrolled over 2000 MESA participants for cognitive testing and brain imaging across two visits. In 2018, researchers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine received more than $18 million from the NIA to launch MESA-MIND to study the connections between heart health and brain health.
MESA was established in 1999 to investigate the characteristics of subclinical cardiovascular disease. This refers to heart or blood vessel disorders that are detected before any clinical signs or symptoms appear.
